Chamisa was one of the founders of the MDC in 1999 but some party supporters have complained that the name has been tarnished by divisions that have led to divisions within the party.
Although Chamisa used the MDC Alliance name in the 2018 elections, Douglas Mwonzora, a former MDC-T candidate, said he wanted to run for office under the MDC Alliance name, prompting Chamisa and others to form a new party.
